Bupa Great Run Series

The Great CityGames is a unique concept created by Nova to showcase the sport of athletics in a new format, and to a new audience.

By taking athletics out of the stadium and staging the event on an innovative and specially constructed city centre track, the general public are able to view the world’s best athletes such as Usain Bolt, Tyson Gay and Jessica Ennis just a few feet away and most importantly for free.

The Great CityGames embraces standard athletics events including 100m, 110m hurdles, 200m, long jump, pole vault and shot put as well as more unique events such as the 150m and 200m hurdles, giving a new twist on the sport.

The Great CityGames track already has two worlds best performances attached to it set by Usain Bolt in 2009 over 150m and Tyson Gay in 2010 over 200m. Currently the Great CityGames can be in seen in Manchester during the Bupa Great Manchester Run weekend and in Newcastle during the Bupa Great North Run weekend. Both events receive one and a half hours live television coverage from the BBC and with popularity growing fast, all the world’s best track and field athletes are keen to have a go.
